Daisy Pots Chap.1
One fine day in the morning, in a lazy town, named, Gerbera. Life was about in it's ordinary. Mr Lawner, the post man was doing his rounds, delivering mail. Mrs Themmer baking cookies for the sale of her bakery. The dog next door was doing his early defecation. It was all ordinary and peaceful. Joey, was just about to get ready for her first lecture in the morning, at her college, a five minutes drive from her suburban home. The daisy pots at her porch was beaming with glee as they had just been watered not too long ago and they were busking in the glory of the morning sun. Mr Lawner, knocked on the front door of Joey's house. The door was baby blue with daisy prints, a little worn out. Joey had lived in that house since she was a little baby. Joey answered to the knock looking a little dishevelled. She was in a rush, if only she had woken up 10 minutes earlier to get ready for school. Mr Lawner handed her a package that was for her and asked her to sign for acknowledgement. Joey left the package on her bed and left for school. As she got in to her pink mini cooper, she wondered to herself where her parents were. They should have woke her up for school, but not today. Little did Joey know that her parents were in peril state. Her parents, Mr and Mrs Disson went for a party last night, Joey wasn't a great fan of the host, Mr Desmond Mcthin. Desmond, a partner to her parent's business, held a party last night for his new house. It was an hour's drive from Joey's house. Joey stayed at home to revise for her pop quiz today.
Joey pulled up in her usual parking lot. The lot in front of the college's storage shack and most importantly, beside Jim Howard. Jim Howard, he is the hottest guy in the entire college. Joey had a major crush on him every since twelfth grade. Jim lives two blocks away from Joey. Yet, they have never spoken or even became friends. Joey parks beside him every day in hope for a chance to bump into him. Jim and Joey are in the same college, but they are taking different majors. Joey has seen Jim a few time around campus. It was either she was too shy to approach him or he was with his group of soccer players, who were mostly guys. Joey was afraid that they would make fun of her. Joey stared at his car after getting out of the car. It was a red sports car. Jim's family, like Joey's, were pretty well off. Joey had a mini cooper because it was a hand-me-down car after her older sister, Jessica, got married and moved to another state. She quickly snapped out of her fantasy and rushed to her lecture hall. Joey was a minute to being considered late and attendance denied. She thanked God for making it in time. As the professor began his lecture, Joey took out her laptop to take notes. She searched her bag for the charger, but it was nowhere to be seen. Joey knew that the old hand-me-down laptop from her sister wouldn't be able to last the whole lecture without it's charger. On the pretence of going to the toilet, she went to her car to get her laptop charger. She opened the door and still couldn't see it, she knew she was going to have to take a while to search for the charger. She finally found it, just as she was about to close the car door and lock it up. From the corner of her eye, she saw someone standing there. It was Jim.
Joey jumped at this opportunity to get to befriend Jim.
"Hi Jim, were you looking for me?"
Jim looked a little puzzled.
"Ya, I was waiting for you to move so I can get to my car?"
Joey turned red, realising she hadn't close the door or locked her car. She immediately did what she was suppose to do.
She got to the front of the lot and watched as Jim unlocked his car and hopped into it. That was the only time she was ever this close to Jim. Despite having parked beside his car almost everyday.
Joey got back to lecture, bummed as her chance of befriending Jim was blown by herself. She concentrated on the lecture to shake herself off what just happened.
It was lunch time, Joey headed to the cafeteria after having bought her lunch. Her best friend since elementary school, Darcy, was hyperventilating as she took a seat beside Joey. Darcy is a quirky person. She was afraid of almost everything. From cockroaches to the most ridiculous thing such as wearing slippers. Darcy was hyperventilating because she was anxious from the guy that just brush his arm against her shoulder. Joey told Darcy to just relax, assured her that she will not catch any virus or disease like this. Joey is a medical student, Darcy wasn't in college, she just came to look for Joey. Darcy didn't have to get a degree or work. Darcy's parents owns factories that manufactures daily necessities. All she ever did was to spend her parent's money. Joey recounts the chance with Jim to Darcy. But Darcy didn't seem very interested. she was more interested in finding her own cute guy. Joey gave up trying to interest Darcy in her story. Joey quickly finished her meal and went back for her final lecture of the day.
Joey's lecture ended five minutes earlier. She strolled to her car, enjoying the orange evening sun. As she drove back, she couldn't help but recalled how stupid she was with Jim. Couldn't she have said something more normal? Why did she even think that Jim was waiting for her. The five minute drive back spent reprimanding herself was quick put to an end. She pulled up in front of her house, she didn't see her parent's cars. Her mother drove a black Mercedes, while her dad drove a dark blue Jaguar. Both cars were not at home. Joey thought that her parents may have partied till late and got home after she went to school before heading to work. Joey goes up to her room and just throws her bag on the floor. She saw the package that Mr Lawner delivered to her this morning, it was still sitting on her bed, unopened. Joey inspected the package. It was a package, about the size of her laptop. It felt cold and there was an high priority stamp in the front on the right corner near the stamp.
"What could be so important that is for me?"
Joey thought to herself.
She unwrapped the brown paper packaging and inside was a box. The box had smoke coming out of it and it felt even colder now. Joey opened the box. She immediately dropped the box and got frightened. Inside the box was two fingers. It was obvious that the coarser finger belonged to a male and the finger with coloured nails belonged to a female. At the bottom of the box, there was a note.
"This is your parents' fingers. Give me the fish at 6pm tomorrow, we meet at the fountain of Saint Helena. If I don't see you, Prepare for your parents' funeral."
Joey was shocked. She didn't know what to do. She did not understand what "fish" in the note meant, she thought if this could be a prank. She looked closer at the fingers, it was kept cold so there is a chance of reattaching the finger back to her parents if she kept it cold. That was her father's finger, no doubt. Mr Disson had accidentally sliced his index finger a week ago while trying to pare an apple. The coarser finger had a scab in a line. Like how a cut that was recovering would look like. The other finger had red nail varnish on it's nail. Joey can only recall that her mother had red nail varnish on for the party.
Joey decides to call Jessica.
